Dayton at the Foot Doctor

Dayton occasionally complains that his foot hurts, and Derrick has noticed a couple of physical problems with Dayton's feet. So Derrick made an appointment for Dayton at the foot clinic on campus. We told Dayton that he was going to see the "foot doctor" and he was SO EXCITED. We prepared him for the visit (just like we did before going to the dentist) and told him all the things the doctors would need to do. Our preparation was once again worth our time, because Dayton had fun and was an excellent patient.

When we checked in with the receptionist, Dayton told her his name was "Dayton Superhero." So when we were called back to our patient room, the nurse called for "Dayton Superhero"- Dayton was beaming! Then the Podiatry students and Doctors all called him by that name as well. Funny kid.
Taking his blood pressure
When the student asked, "How does that feel?"
Dayton answered, "Good."
Daddy's turn to work on Dayton!
We intentionally overlapped Dayton's appt with Derrick's
clinic schedule so Derrick could have Dayton as a patient
When Derrick was examining Dayton's feet,
Dayton kept announcing "That doesn't hurt!"
because Derrick told Dayton to let him know if anything hurt
Derrick measuring an angle on Dayton's foot
Dayton showing me his foot
Very excited to be at the foot doctor!
They took x-rays of Dayton's feet and determined that he does need some things corrected. They took a cast of each foot, and they will make orthodic inserts for Dayton to wear inside his tennis shoes.
Derrick got to mold two casts of Dayton's feet;
Dayton liked having a plastic bag over his foot
At the end of our long visit,
Dayton was just as happy as when we arrived
Since Dayton went to the "foot doctor" when his foot was hurting, he has a new outlook on the medical field. When he stubbed a toe today, he told me he needs to see the "toe doctor." When he bit his tongue today, he told me he needs to visit the "tongue doctor." I'm trying to explain that not ALL body parts have specialized doctors, and not ALL injuries require a doctor visit. I love this kid!

I think that is so great that Derrick is Dayton's "Foot Doctor". You did an excellent job preparing him which made the appointment go even better. It would be interesting to see how he would have done if there was a different doctor. Did Dayton call daddy Dr. McKay?
