The Talented Mr. Dayton

Dayton has a love of learning, and he is a self-learner. He enjoys studying and figuring out new things, and he is always more than excited to share his discoveries with us. Dayton has learned so many new things over the last several months- I want to display how bright my son is!

Spelling words
Dayton started spelling words when he was 3.5 years old. He has a Word Whammer on the fridge that guided him through 3-letter words, and his Daddy worked on spelling words with him in the bathtub with foam letters.

Reading
Dayton started reading words just after spelling them, and he has some simple books that he reads so well! Not many 3-year-olds can read- we are so proud of him.

Somersaulting
He just picked up this skill. He always somersaulted to the side (like Daphne does in the video), but he recently figured out a true somersault. He was very excited to show us what he learned on his own, plus some of his cool tricks and kicks.

Riding his bike- Basement
He's had this bike for almost a year, and he has instantly started using the pedals! He often asks us to come down to the basement with him so we can watch him ride his bike- he's very excited about this skill, too.

Riding his bike- Outside
I actually let him take his bike outside a few times this summer so he could cruise down the road.

Playing catch
He has becoming very good at throwing and catching with Daddy.

Singing
Dayton has always been great at remembering songs. One day recently he sang singing Book of Mormon Stories (a song from Church) for me.

Big Dog, Little Dog- from memory
In this video, he's not reading the words of the book. But rather, he's telling me what each page says from his memory. Derrick and I were very impressed how precise and correct most of his story was.

Yes, Dayton is very talented and very smart. Derrick, he could have made 10 throws but you tossed a bad one! He sure has grown up fast in the past couple of months.

What a sweet little boy. I think that says a lot about the mom and dad that you are and the time and effort you put in to helping him flourish. :)
