Dayton's 2nd Birthday

Our first-born, wonderfully talented and intelligent son Dayton turned 2 on Saturday. We told him all day long that it was his birthday and he reminded us that he was going to eat cake. When he woke up from his nap, we had the birthday decorations out, and we stuffed all of his presents inside his Cars tent (which was also a b-day present, but he got it early). He found a toy in the first bag he opened, so he wanted to stop after that one, but we made him keep opening.

Warm winter sweatshirts and warm-ups from Auntie Laura and Blane

Cars pajamas and Mickey ears hat from Auntie Jenny and Uncle Trevor (they bought them at Disneyland)

Protractor, compass, ruler, watercolor paints, index cards, crayons, 30 coloring and writing books, and 2 puzzles from Great-Grandma Ava Klein (I think we'll save the protractor and compass for when he's turning 8!)

Winter sleepers, rain-boots, Cars tent, and magnet alphabet game from Nana and Grandpa with the Hat

Crocs, church shoes, bath alphabet set, and new church pants from Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Bill

Rainforest Cafe
Then we went to the Rainforest Cafe for dinner. Dayton loved seeing all of the animals, but he was scared if we got too close. When we first sat down, I was disappointed that we weren't next to any of the fun animated animals, but it turned out to be better that way because Dayton was scared of the animals that moved and made noises. He loved the still parrot that was right next to our table.




Daphne sat in a high chair for her first time, although the only things on the menu for her were the menu and a spoon, which kept her happy for a while.


Then Daphne fell asleep, which was actually nice so Derrick could eat his dinner. He draped her with a napking while he ate, not to keep her warm, but to keep her clean from Daddy drool and crumbs.


And Dayton loved looking at all of the fish aquariums (when we first arrived, while we waited for our food, after we ate our food, when we left...).



Part of the ceiling was a night sky, with twinkling and shooting stars. Dayton kept staring at it while we ate. Here he is showing me where the stars are.


Dayton ate hot dogs and corn, and some of Mommy's clam chowder.


When we left, Dayton said "All done animals."



Horsey
Then we rode the merry-go-round in the mall.



Cake
He had two cupcakes, but he wouldn't eat them on his own. He didn't want to get his hands messy, so I had to feed them to him. He blew out the candles by himself in one blow (though not his first blow).






Quilt
He played with his birthday quilt that Nana made for him. We have friends and family sign it for his birthdays. He found the 2 on the quilt.



Daddy's Shirt
I'm starting a tradition of having him wear his Daddy's BYU football jersey every year on his birthday, so we can watch his growth every year.
