Backyard Ice Skating

The frigid winter here (without snow of course) has been cold enough to freeze all the standing water in my parents' backyard. Grandpa tested the ice for us and assured me that my kids would be safe for skating. We just wore snow boots.
Grandpa, Dayton, and Daphne trying to ice skate;
The tall grass poking through was actually nice traction
The kids had to gear up for this adventure-
Dayton wore a backpack, and Daphne carried her purse
Daphne enjoyed scooting around
Dayton had fun, tooOn our way back up to the house, Grandpa put the kids in a tree;
Daphne sitting in the tree
Dayton sitting in the treeNana took the kids to see the dig-out in the basement,
explaining how the digging machine works and carries dirt outside
Dayton and Daphne staring at the dirt abyss
We were cold when we got inside, so we put on pajamas and had a tea party with WARM chocolate and cupcakes. If you call it hot chocolate, my kids refuse to drink it.

Didn't you dress up for the party too? I forgot we had such cold weather last winter.
