Dance Class for Dayton

We're sad that Dayton is missing so much preschool while he's here in Washington, so my mom wanted to find a fun activity for him. She thought of gymnastics, but the toddler tumble class at our local fitness center is full. Then she found a 3 year old dance class that had 2 more weeks of class before Christmas break, so she signed us up!

The class is for kids and parents, so I was involved in most of the activities. The teacher was WONDERFUL.

During our first class, Dayton got to do an obstacle course with a balance beam and tumble mats, jump on a small trampoline, skip to the music in a circle, play around and under a large parachute, and dance with scarves. The scarf dance was the only time I wasn't involved, so I grabbed my camera to capture his joy!
Then the kids fell "asleep" at the end of the song.

During our second class, Dayton did all of the previous activities, but I stepped back a few more times to take some photos and videos.

Lining up to roll down the mats
Jumping on the trampolineLaying under the parachute while we bounced it on top of him

They were dancing to "Running Down the Hill" by Laurie Berkner (for those of you who don't know, Noggin- a preschool cable channel- plays some of Laurie's kids songs in between cartoons, including this song). This time the kids had cones to jump over and dance around, instead of scarves to wave. Yes, he's the only boy in the class, but nobody cared! And he got lots of exercise!

Video of Dancing

At the end of class she calls each child by name and they run to bang
on her tamborine; this is a short video of Dayton's turn running.

Yes, Dayton needs the exercise, just look at the picture of him on the mat with his belly hanging out! I loved in the video how all he did was run around and jump over the cones. Tell you mom thanks for signing him up!
